USF Rolls Past No. 17 Baylor, 3-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference continues to showcase strong women’s soccer to start the 2018 season as league teams combined to go 4-1-0 on Friday night. RV/RV USF pulled the upset with a 3-1 victory over 17/20 Baylor while three other teams posted shutouts.

No. 23/14 UCF 1, No. 21/21 Texas
Playing its first official match of the season, UCF battled nationally-ranked Texas into extra time but were topped on score early into the extra frame.

In her first match back from the U20 Women’s World Cup, sophomore Dina Orschmann found junior Zandy Soree in the middle of the box for the equalizer from eight yards out in the 29th minute. The two teams played a strong match but the Longhorns were able to prevail in overtime.
 
Next up, the Knights will face No. 4 UNC in a 2 p.m. match on Sunday at Finley Fields South.
 
Temple 2, Sacred Heart 0
Temple earned its first win of the season against Sacred Heart on Friday night as the Owls netted two goals and controlled possession against the Pioneers, holding them to a blank slate for a 2-0 victory.

Jules Blank ignited the Owls' offense from the start, scoring her second goal of the season in the fifth minute of the match with a header off an assist from senior forward Kerri McGinley.
 
Temple travels to Delaware State to take on the Hornets on Sunday, August 26 at 2 p.m.
 
RV/RV USF 3, No. 17/20 Baylor 1
Evelyne Viens had a foot in each of USF's three goals to overpower No. 17/20 Baylor on Friday night, 3-1.
 
After the second straight rain delay at Corbett stadium, USF took the pitch nearly two hours behind schedule, but the Bulls didn't waste any time. The first half of the match was highlighted by two goals that came within four minutes, as both Brianna Blethen and Emma Davies netted their first career NCAA goals to put USF ahead 2-0 leading into the half. Viens had an assist on both goals.
 
USF will remain at home for a match against Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m.
 
Cincinnati 2, Wright State 0
Cincinnati saw transfer Sydney Kilgore net her first goal for the Bearcats and sophomore Sophie Gorman found the back of the net for the first time in 2018 to help the Bearcats rebound nicely from their first loss of the season as they handed visiting Wright State a 2-0 defeat Friday night at Gettler Stadium.
 
The Bearcats, who improved to 2-1-0 on the year, saw 25 different players pick up minutes in the match as the Raiders slipped to 0-2-1 in 2018.
 
The Bearcats will play host to Northern Kentucky in a 7 p.m. match Sunday at Gettler Stadium.
 
Houston 5, Prairie View A&M 0
Houston posted its first victory of the 2018 season Friday night at the Carl Lewis Complex, shutting out Prairie View A&M in a 5-0 decision.
 
Houston got on the board early, recording two goals in the first 12 minutes of action
Olivia Lee recorded the first goal of her career, after capitalizing on a free kick by Mia Brascia.
Offensive standout Desiree Bowen posted her first goal of the season inside the 11th frame after scrambling to a pass from junior Kaitlyn Wild.
           
Houston will head to San Antonio on Sunday for a 5 p.m. matchup against Incarnate Word.
