01.18.24

IRVING, Texas -  James Madison lacrosse attack Isabella Peterson has been named to the USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason All-American First Team, as announced by USA Lacrosse on Wednesday.

This preseason honor comes after Peterson set JMU single-season records in goals (91) and points (114), and a career-high 23 assists in the 2023 season. Her goals, points and shots (185) were all ranked second in the nation. She was sixth in the American Athletic Conference in draw controls per game (4.09) and reached 90 draw controls for the second straight season.

Peterson's performances last year helped her earn IWLCA, ILWomen and USA Lacrosse First-Team All-American at the conclusion of the season. She was also honored as a Tewaaraton Award finalist and the American Athletic Conference Attack Player of the Year.

Peterson helped lead JMU to a 19-3 record and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.

Peterson and the Dukes will make their season debut on Feb. 10, as they take on the Tar Heels at home at noon.

Florida, which won the 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship and reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament, had attack Danielle Pavinelli and midfielder Emily Heller earn preseason honorable mention honors.
