WACO, Texas – East Carolina junior Trey Yesavage has been tabbed the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Dick Howser Trophy National Pitcher of the Month for April according to an announcement by the organization Friday afternoon.
Yesavage is the first Pirate to earn the accolade since Carson Whisenhunt garnered recognition in March of 2021.
The Boyertown, Pa., native compiled a 4-0 record with a 1.03 ERA in four starts during April. He limited opponents to a .105 batting average while surrendering just three runs and nine hits with 50 strikeouts against nine walks in 26.1 innings. Yesavage racked up double-digit strikeouts in all four games, including a career-high 15 in a victory over Wichita State. He did not allow a run in three appearances and worked at least six frames in each outing. Yesavage was also named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week three times (April 8th, 15th and 29th).
Entering this weekend's series versus South Florida, Yesavage leads the American Athletic Conference in opposing batting average (.148), strikeouts (113) and victories (nine) while sitting second nationally in victories, third in hits allowed per nine innings (4.52), strikeouts and WHIP (0.81) and seventh in strikeouts per nine innings (15.03).
